I Believe in Jesus Christ

Nobody Else Knows

Read John 8:31–38

During the 1925 U.S. Open playoffs, Bobby Jones, one of the greatest amateur golfers in the modern era, sent his ball into the rough just off the fairway. While preparing for his next shot, Jones’ iron caused a slight movement of the ball. He called a penalty shot.

After discussion, the marshals confirmed nobody saw the ball move and left the decision for the penalty to Jones. Although no one else knew the ball moved, Jones did. He gave himself the penalty and lost that year’s Open.

Today’s reading reminds us that Jesus calls His followers to the same high standards.

If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free (John 8:31,32).

Jesus—the Way, the Truth and the Life—wants us to live by His truth at all times—not just in the moments when others are watching us. He knows and sees what is in our hearts.

Challenge for Today: Ask the Holy Spirit to set you free from anything that prevents you from living fully in His truth.
