I Believe in God
One True God
Read Deuteronomy 6:4–9
Imagine working for a company that had too many bosses. Employees would wonder which boss—or bosses—they needed to please from day to day. The workplace would be inefficient because the bosses’ orders would often contradict each other. Allegiances would develop, pitting boss against boss. Imagine confusion and disharmony on a daily basis.
That might have been what life was like for the neighbors of the Israelites. With their polytheistic beliefs, they worshipped and tried to please many gods, who often acted in disharmony with one another. Life was different for the Israelites.
Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one (Deuteronomy 6:4).
God alone created everything. He alone sustains that creation. He alone reigns supreme. The standard by which He rules is consistent and righteous. God maintained an active role in the daily activities of the Israelites. He established His presence with them. That is why the Israelites could call Him “our” God—the one, true God. And we can too!
Thought for Today: We serve one God, who manifests himself in three distinct Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Devotional brought to you by God's Word For Today.

Jesus in America
After being asked to lead the opening prayer for the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, Pastor Gerry Stoltzfoos was denied because of his refusal to omit Jesus' name from the prayer. Several recent polls express a majority of Christians in America do not consider belief in Jesus a requirement for eternal life. Zollie L. Smith Jr., national director of AG U.S. Missions, says these findings show a need for Christ-centered ministries in the United States.
